3 Foolproof Ways to Keep a Positive Mindset & Improve Your Life

Hey guys

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend a talk on “Creating a Positive Mindset to Change the Outcome of your Life“. It was rather inspiring and also reinforced messages I learnt about previously. However, it’s not always easy to remain positive and sometimes life just happens. Nonetheless, I’m here to share with you what I learnt and hopefully inspire you to keep a positive mindset.

Why do you need a positive mindset? Developing a positive mindset is a habit; a habit of looking on the bright side of things and approaching challenges with a positive outlook. For instance, when something terrible happens to you instead of thinking “why me?” think “what’s the next step?”. By having a positive mindset it allows you to be more productive, more resilient and increases your overall health. I once heard it takes 66 days to form a habit, how about practicing these three activities for 66 days and see? (That’s a little over two months)

Your life is as good as your MINDSET.

3 Tips to Help you Keep A Positive Mindset

Develop a growth mindset vs a fixed mindset

It’s as simple as it sounds, having a growth mindset simply means you believe in change and with the appropriate skills/time you can achieve X. However, with a fixed mindset nothing changes; for example you’re either good at something or you aren’t. There’s no trying to combat this roadblock and you simply continue to live this way. When I think of a person with a fixed mindset I think of someone who’s choosing to settle with whatever life hands them as opposed to facing obstacles and achieving more. Do you see how this could hinder growth? You’ll never know your full potential if you don’t develop a growth mindset.

Someone with a growth mindset believes that they can learn anything they want to. They accept the challenges and prepare to find a new course of action. To help you develop a growth mindset try asking yourself these questions:

  • What problem did you face today? How did you manage it?
  • How are you going to challenge yourself?
  • What are you doing to help you reach where you want to be?
  • Is this really my best work?

Other things you can do to help you develop a growth mindset include asking questions, trying to learn as much as possible about new topics, talking to new people, and even doing new things.

Be mindful of your words

I’ve said it before on this very blog, your words have power. Anything you speak over your life has the power to manifest once you believe it. If you want to keep a positive mindset you have start thinking positive thoughts. As hard as it can be, practice using affirmations as you start your day. I know some people do this while they get ready by looking into the mirror and speaking it to themselves. Others do it in their vehicles on the way to work. However, a key point to using affirmations is to speak them out loud.

Another way to use affirmations is to write them down. Writing them down and also speaking them serves as you putting them out into the universe. If you watched my vision board snaps or read the post you’d see that I have quite a few on it. My board is also placed in a position for me to see it everyday. Practice using one or two positive affirmations for the next 66 days and see how it works for you.

Self-Awareness is key

Lastly, but definitely not the least SELF-AWARENESS. By definition, self-awareness is having the conscious knowledge of one’s own character and feelings. That’s some heavy stuff right there because many people may not like to do the introspection needed. So how self-aware are you? Do you pay attention to your thoughts and emotions?

In developing a positive mindset and becoming self-aware, make a conscious effort to monitor your thoughts. This can be done by keeping a journal or meditating, more or less finding quiet time and listening to yourself. Also, be aware of the people you keep around. You don’t want to associate yourself with a ‘negative nancy’ because sooner or later that may become you.

Having a positive mindset doesn’t mean you’re in a happy go lucky mood 24/7 it just means adjusting your thinking in certain situations for a better outcome. Feel free to share other methods you may use to keep a positive mindset.
