Revealing My Natural Hair Product Stash Pt. 1: Leave-In Conditioners

I recently made a Youtube video sharing my natural hair product stash and it came up to FIFTY-THREE products in total, whoa! I wanted to find a way to share this with my readers without listing ALL of the products at once, so I came up with this product roundup series. Each week I’ll share a different category showcasing the products I own from each. I’ll also share a mini review on the product or direct you to where you can find a full review, either on another blog post or Youtube video. As I mentioned in the video, I have quite a few products which I haven’t used in a while so I am trying to switch that up going forward. Hope you guys enjoy this series; first up we’re discussing LEAVE-IN CONDITIONERS.

Leave-In conditioners are used after washing your hair for extra moisture and to aid in the detangling process before styling. Leave-Ins can also add shine and protect your hair from the natural elements. From my use of these products, they can come in a cream or liquid and are best applied to damp hair.

Here’s what’s in my stash:

1/ Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner

One of the first leave-in conditioners I ever started using. In the beginning it worked perfectly, however as my hair grew and changed it hasn’t been the same. It’s advertised as being for type 4 hair and has a light, refreshing scent.

2/ Camille Rose Signature Collection Curl Love Moisture Milk

According to the directions, this can be used as a leave-in conditioner. It’s also one of my most recent purchases and so far it’s been working fine when it comes to refreshing my hair.

3/ Taliah Waajid Green Apple & Aloe

The bottle this product comes in is probably the biggest turn off for me; it’s very difficult to use and can easily slip out of hands when styling hair. Funny thing is I listed this as one of my favourite products last year, but truth be told I haven’t been using it much since. I know for sure when layered with the curl elixir from this line, I got a good hold with sufficient moisture.

3/ Alikay Naturals Lemongrass Leave-In Conditioner

I have low porosity hair and through research it says a spray leave-in conditioner is best and to avoid anything too heavy. I’d have to give this its own test, but as you can see I have quite a bit of cream leave-ins. This spray conditioner from Alikay Naturals I got in a set with other styling products and it’s one I reach for regularly.

4/ Carol’s Daughter Goddess Strength Divine Strength Leave-In Cream

The newest of the bunch and I haven’t used it much yet. First impression is the scent is very different to your usual fruity-scented products; I can’t really pick up on the dominant scent though. Other than that I’ll have to delay the review for when I’m styling my hair in the future.

5/ Discover Treluxe Untie the Knot Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner

I’ve used this a few times and I’ve really been trying to like it but it’s a no for me. The scent doesn’t sit right with me and it always seems to leave flakes in my hair. Am I using too much? 🤷🏾‍♀️

7/ Curls Poppin Pineapple Collection So So Smooth Leave In Conditioner

This product was gifted to me last year in a Mystery Box Giveaway. The scent is very overpowering, but if you love pineapples then you’d love this. As to the effectiveness of the product, ahhh I’m not too sure or at least I never really see a major difference when applying to my hair compared to after.

Is it surprising that out of 53 products only 7 are leave-in conditioners?

As of right now I have a hard time choosing a leave-in conditioner when it’s time to style my hair. I don’t feel like any of the ones I have on hand are the right fit (with exception of Carol’s Daughter). I’m also at a point where I just don’t know anymore when it comes to products. My hair is definitely not the same as it used to be when I first went natural so it feels like trial and error all over again. I’m also going to start using only one product to style my hair to see how that goes, because I’m not sure if leave-in conditioner is absolutely needed or if it’s a scam like lots of other things in the Natural Hair community.
