Eat Outs: Simply Coffee Antigua

We’re FINALLY back with another restaurant review! Hopefully, it will be the first of many this year. To get things started, I visited a cute little coffee shop that I’ve been wanting to check out. This is probably going to be the vibe for 2020 as there are quite a few restaurants I want to give a try.

Simply Coffee Antigua

LOCATION & VIBE

Simply Coffee is located on Marble Hill Road, about 10 minutes from St. John’s (“the city”) and 20 minutes from my home. It’s in a mini plaza along with a boutique and hair salon. Since it’s a small plaza, parking is a bit limited. They are opened everyday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Wednesdays.

Upon entering, the cafe appeared smaller than imagined. Thankfully, it was empty so we had many options for seating. It was quite open and the decor definitely set the mood along with the music playing softly in the background. Seating options included tables and chair, high top seats and two couch areas. There was also a mini library area with a bookshelf which complemented the cafe’s aesthetic well. I particularly enjoyed how welcoming the staff were, anyone who entered was greeted instantly with a warm smile. The customer service was truly a breath of fresh air!

THE MENU

From checking them out on Instagram, I had an idea about what I wanted prior to arriving. However, I was unsure about the drinks so I made sure to go through the menu. The breakfast menu is a bit limited; offerings included omelettes with several additions, continental breakfast, eggs any style, baguettes and your various sides (pancakes, yoghurt, fruits, croissants).

Drinks

Drinks offered include signature cocktails, spirits, coffees, teas and soft drinks. I decided to go for a cocktail named Simply Berry Fizz.

I can’t even begin to explain how GOOD this was. It definitely tasted like a burst of berry flavours with a hint of prosecco afterwards. The bottom of the glass had all the prosecco! My sister, who was my brunch date, opted for a vanilla iced latte. Of course I sampled it and it wasn’t too sweet so it was still enjoyable and refreshing.

Breakfast

The real reason we were here. From Instagram my choices were either the croissants or French toast. I didn’t see the French toast on the menu and I was also leaning towards croissants more. I decided to have two croissants with eggs and bacon while my sister had a BLT baguette with mayo and pepper.

It took about 15 minutes to get our order and I was ready to dig in. The plating could have used a bit more work, but it didn’t take away from the taste. I once had croissants almost everyday while in Switzerland so they are a beloved breakfast item.

Despite the flakes getting everywhere, the croissants melted in your mouth, the eggs were tasty and fluffy and the bacon was fried to perfection. I don’t usually like my bacon extra crispy and they got it right! I finished them and felt content for the rest of the morning. On the other hand, there was nothing magnificent about the baguette. It was simple but delicious.

After eating we were invited to check out the boutique store, Simply Me where we browsed a bit then left. Upon leaving, we were escorted to our vehicle with our takeaway bag. The customer service was A1, from entering, placing our order, payment etc. I thought the prices would have been outrageous but they were like your regular restaurant/hotel breakfast prices. All in all it was worth the visit, and I’d return.
