Hey Guys!
As you may or may not know, being a naturalista involves A LOT of trial and error. From products to hairstyles, it’s all a learning process to figure out what works for you. In between those trials you may find a couple good solutions however, the process AND MONEY to get there will be consuming. What I learnt though is that it’s not only the products you should be paying attention to but also the technique (I’m going to practice this a little more this year).
All hair types aren’t the same and it’s frustrating seeing a product work for someone else and not you. Most hair companies also seem to focus on the looser type of curls and not on more coarse hair patterns. Even if they do advertise for type 4 hair it still may NOT work! I won’t even begin to call out what products just don’t work for me so here are the ones that did.
My Favorite Products for Type 4 Natural Hair 2018
TGIN – Thank God It’s Natural
Honey Miracle Hair Mask
*phew* During my natural hair journey I kept seeing advertisements of these products and how wonderful they were. I desperately wanted to try them but couldn’t find any in a store here and the price range was a little higher than other brands. I waited until I travelled to purchase it and there has been absolutely no regrets. This has been my go-to deep conditioner.

Green Tea Super Moist Leave In Conditioner
Luckily, I went to an Open House for a hair store on island and after purchasing products I received a goody bag with TGIN samples. It included products I actually wanted to try so I was happy. One of which was this leave in conditioner; a little definitely goes a long way and it was super moisturizing.

EDEN Bodyworks
I’m trying to remember how or when I discovered the EDEN brand but I really can’t. Nonetheless, I’m happy I did. These two products have played a vital role in my wash n’ gos and twist outs. Simple moisturizing my fro on an off day, the pudding souffle is great. The defining creme was used for a wash n’ go along with lots of patience and a combination of the raking and shingling methods.

Shea Moisture
Coconut and Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo
One of the best shampoos that worked for me to date. It moisturizes AND cleanses very well. As with most of their other products a little goes a long way as it lathers greatly. The smell is wonderful and different to the creamy coconut scents I’m accustomed to. It was made for me; tempted to give other products in this line a try.

Aunt Jackie’s
Don’t Shrink Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel
Last, but not the least – Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed Gel. This product has worked on some days and totally failed on others. I wouldn’t mind discovering another gel but after the Ecostyler fiasco this came in clutch. It gave my hair definition, moisture (it wasn’t crunchy) and it didn’t flake! Butttttttt my hair still shrank!

[…] of products came from Eden BodyWorks, a BLACK-OWNED brand and one I fell in love with during my natural hair journey. Today I’m only focusing on one product from the stash, but the others are highlighted below […]

[…] During my online research I also saw people complaining about the formula for the product. Apparently it didn’t always contain Apple Cider Vinegar and persons thought this addition wasn’t making the product work for them. I wouldn’t know what it was like before, but I’m definitely adding this to my favorite products of 2019 list! [Check out my favorite products from 2018] […]

[…] I decided to do a wash n’ go but I think I’m going to retire that style. It never works out to my advantage and I end up getting single strand knots. I usually do the raking method since it’s not as time consuming but when I do take the time and shingle it’s a good style. […]

I’ve been meaning to try TGIN for at least 2 years but it’s so hard to switch when you have certain products working for you but I’ll give it a try since I’m back to taking care of my hair and working on growing it out this year.

Yes I want to give TGIN Deep conditioner a try but the price always makes me look the other way. When I started my natural hair journey 8 years ago, I started with Shea Moisture. I have tried enough products that I don’t even try wasting too much money these days. I have tried a leave in conditioner from TGIN and I love it. The smell and moisture is amazing. Great post. Natural hair products are definitely a trial and error kinda experiment 😊✨

I keep hearing about honey hair masks and I definitely need to try one. I’ve been natural for about 5 years but, I just did the big chop last year and since then, I’ve been investing in hair care products. I’m loving my hair so much but, it’s now at the awkward length where I need to find what works the best and how to style it.
Shea Moisture is definitely one of my favorite brands!
Thanks for sharing!

That awkward length phase is such a struggle! I’m still waiting on the phase where my hair falls properly after a twistout lol. Anything with honey is usually good for me. Hope you find it soon! Thanks for checking out my post xoxo
