Hey Friends!
As you know, I’m a product junkie! There, I finally admitted it 😅. Anyway, given all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, I couldn’t resist the urge to purchase natural hair products. Last week I received my first package which I actually got from Sally Beauty during a Pre-Black Friday sale. Funny story, I saw someone advertise this on their IG story on the last day and quickly opened to website to cop these products. Ya girl LOVES a sale, and if you see the original prices you’ll understand. Given our transition into the holiday season, you guys are getting a two for one special where I share my first impressions on the As I Am JBCO line and a holiday look I created.
As I Am is one of those brands I’ve been eyeing for awhile but it’s a bit pricier than others. They have many new product lines but I decided to go for the Jamaican Black Castor Oil with Vitamin C and Vitamin E for all the known benefits. The line is also advertised to restore and repair hair, specifically for type 3 and 4. After reading a few reviews and knowing my current needs, I only decided to purchase three products – Cowash, Smoothie and Curling Creme. By the way, the current sale on Sally Beauty was 50% off!
As I Am Jamaican Black Castor Oil Cowash
Cleanses and conditions while detangling and moisturizing with a special blend of natural ingredients that works to promote healthier hair lengths and a healthier scalp.
As I Am
In my video I spoke about loving the classic coconut cowash, well this one is even better! I was worried about the consistency (it’s very runny) but it worked out fine while washing my hair. My hair instantly felt soft while I was working it into my strands and even after washing it out. Also, I didn’t have to use too much of the product to get a lather so I know it’ll go a long way. It comes in a 16 oz jar with no sulphates, phthalates, silicones, parabens, gluten or petrolatum. It did what it said it would, which was cleanse my hair and scalp, hydrate my coils and made it more manageable to go into my styling process.
As I Am Jamaican Black Castor Oil Smoothie
Start with a small amount and increase based on thickness of hair.
As I Am Product Directions
One thing I didn’t love about the new packaging was the colours they chose for the text and the background. In some instances, it was very difficult to read so I didn’t even bother trying to decipher the directions. Days later and after visiting the website I see the above quote, lol. My first impression of this product was how THICK it was and when applying it to my hair I didn’t want to use too much. As I applied more and more it seemingly worked but I still wasn’t sold on it. “This frizz-fighting, no flake formula moisturizes and conditions” I did have frizz, but that was definitely on my part given the way I separated the twists. However when I initially untwisted the twists, the definition was perfect and no flakes!
As I Am Jamaican Black Castor Oil Curling Creme
Nature’s best moisturizers, and curl boosters, will lock in precious moisture while simultaneously defining your coils and curls.
As I Am
Save the best for last? This was nothing like the smoothie. Despite being in a smaller jar, the curling creme was also much lighter than the smoothie. When I first went natural I thought heavier creams were best, but over the years I found that lightweight creams worked just as great or better. It is said to “provide longer lasting hold, minimize frizz, and maintain curl definition for days”; I’m currently on day 3 and so far, so good! Dear As I Am, can I get this in a 16oz jar?!
Overall, I was very happy with my purchases and will be using them in my hair routine more frequently. The smell isn’t as overpowering as other products I’ve used, it’s light and pleasant. I’m not sure yet about purchasing other products in the line, there’s a JBCO water, moisturizing masque, shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner. However, I think I bought enough products from different lines during Black Friday to last a while. Have you tried products from this line before?
Holiday Look
To test out these new products I decided to try a style I don’t usually do – 3 strand twists. They normally take me forever to do but the definition is always A1. Check out my video below to see my struggle and to also see the full look. Let me know what you think! P.S I purchased this headband from Profile268 during there Black Friday sale.
