Eat Outs: 2-4-1 at Sugar Club, Antigua

Hey Guys!

The eating continues, this time at the Sugar Club. This restaurant is located in Sugar Ridge Hotel, one of the most elite resorts on island. However, it is one of two restaurants  available which focuses on daily dining while the other is more suited for fine dining. On Wednesdays, they advertise a 2-4-1 special; previously I thought this was only on Steaks but found out it was on all grilled items.

Venue Setup

The restaurant is located upstairs the gym and gift shop overlooking the pool. It’s quite spacious with just the right amount of lighting and the appropriate decor. When we arrived there were only a few people seated, while a band was setting up to play. There wasn’t anything overly special about the restaurant setup, nothing stood out per se.

Menu Options

So, as usual before I go anywhere I like to check the menu items beforehand, not only for the varying prices, but to get a feel of what I’d like to eat. On that day I wasn’t particularly in the mood for steak, so I found a menu online and was happy with the other options. However, when we got there it was a totally different menu and very limited. For the main course options, only different cuts of steak, ribs, fish, and chicken were available; starters were also limited to soup and two other items I can’t remember. Sides included french fries, sweet potato fries, grilled vegetables and mashed potato (which they were out of).

I decided to have the baby back ribs, with french fries and salad. However, upon receiving my dish I realized I may have made the wrong choice. My sister on the other hand had steak with french fries, while my mom had the baby back ribs as well, and my dad had the grilled catch of the day, which was mahi-mahi (since he doesn’t eat meat).

First off, the ribs were disappointing to say the least. It was advertised as grilled but tasted liked it was just boiled with BBQ sauce thrown on the top. Maybe it was placed in the oven for a little bit first, but DEFINITELY not grilled. My sister’s steak was awesome though from the little piece I managed to beg. As for the fish, I’m not sure how it tasted but the presentation was definitely off. For a restaurant in an “elite” resort it was very subpar, but what’s new?
