Eat Outs: Rum Bus Beach, Antigua

Hey Guys!

As the name suggests it’s a Rum Bus; they redesigned an old double-decker bus into a bar then added several cabanas and hammocks, turning this place into an amazing beach bar and restaurant. It’s located on the south-western end of the island along a stretch of countless other beach bars; however the red bus definitely stands out. Next to it is OJ’s beach bar which we visited sometime ago.

We were back and forth trying to decide which place to check out on Sunday and finally went with Rum Bus since there were so many great reviews. Another plus was that the menu was available online so we were aware of the prices beforehand. I don’t know if that’s just a weird thing with me, but I prefer viewing menus online to see whether or not there’s anything I’d like or if I could even afford the place without breaking the bank. Therefore the menu availability was definitely a plus and helped with making our decision to check it out.

First off kudos to whoever designed this place. I was really impressed with the landscaping as well as the decor and ornamental pieces. Even though it was Sunday and I usually indulge in a little #SundayFunday by lounging on the beach, this wasn’t the day. The water looked pretty inviting though.

Now to the reason we were here – LUNCH!

EVERYTHING is $60 (US$22) except for special items like lobster. That’s a pretty good standard price when you really look at it. Since I used to live in the U.S. for a bit I find myself comparing prices here and there because it can get on the pricey side *that’s a whole other discussion*. Anyway, I think that’s the standard price you’d pay in a restaurant for meals of this kind. Notice I said restaurant and NOT fast food places.

Now even though the waiter said we’d get two sides with each meal it turned out that we got three, so there were definitely no complaints about that. Portion sizes were relatively okay since I was actually full after my meal and didn’t even eat the salad. The fries were definitely my favorite. Everyone enjoyed and said their meals were pretty flavorful.

This definitely warrants a return and next time the beach will definitely be included. Cabanas also come at an overhead cost of $15 (US$6) for the day, but there are also other seats available just for dining or by the bar.
