So this post is definitely overdue, but nonetheless it’s here. A little over a week ago I participated in a Sip n’ Paint activity put on by the Rotaract Club of Antigua and Let’s Paint Antigua. By now, due to social media majority of you should know what a “sip n paint” or “paint n sip” is. However, if you’re unsure it’s basically a night of expressing yourself creatively, either doing your own painting or following an instructor to create a particular piece. While painting, there’s the option of enjoying a glass of wine or any other choice of alcohol you desire. This activity has been gaining popularity to include variations such as “Paints n’ Prosecco“, “Paint n’ Pour” and “Brunch n’ Brushes“.
Let’s Paint Antigua offers this service at least once a month, where you’re free to bring your own alcohol or support the bar at the location. I never got the chance to attend any of these sessions, so I was extremely happy when we got to do this at one of our meetings. You don’t have to be an artist to go to an event like this; it’s all about having fun and being creative. Of course, the guys at Let’s Paint had a couple of rules for us before we began.
I did art before (about 8 years ago), so I wasn’t too phased by the portrait for the evening. A major plus as well, is that there’s an instructor guiding you through the painting on the necessary steps. If you got lost, confused or anything, she was there to assist and never showed frustration. We started by outlining the scene in pencil and it was totally okay if paint got over them as you’d see below.
To start off painting, we got five basic colors and by the end of the night ended up with many more. We had to mix various colors in order to get our scene right. The trick is in the BLENDING, I hated seeing the harsh lines as you went from light to dark or vice versa. I tried my best, but still it was difficult! For someone like me, the small palette of paint given wasn’t enough. Especially when mixing I didn’t have enough space, and colors I didn’t want to be mixing got in the way.
By the end of the night I was very happy with my painting and even added some birds to make it unique.
All items (brushes, canvas, paint) needed are provided, so all you gotta do is show up! I had an absolute great time that night. The next day, I decided to leave a review on their Facebook page to express my satisfaction with the initiative, as well as the team. Luckily they were having a giveaway and it just so happens that I won! So, Let’s Paint Antigua will be seeing me again sooner than later.
They also do private functions, parties for adults or kids, just contact them for more information.
