Wash Day ft. Aunt Jackie’s Products

Hey Guys!!

I’m finally back with another natural hair post! This time it involves wash day with a brand of products I’ve been dying to try. When I first started this journey I was of the belief that I wouldn’t become a product junkie, but watching all these videos and reading different blogs it’s hard not to want to try them all. However, I’m aware that we don’t all have the same type of hair and what works for you won’t work for me.

Out of all the ads I have seen, one of the brands which stood out to me most was Aunt Jackie’s. I was so happy when I went to my local beauty supply store and they had them in stock. I decided for a beginner I would try the shampoo and deep conditioner first. With the new news of ecostyler though, I may just have to go back and cop the flaxseed gel to see if it lives up to its “don’t shrink elongated” name.

Wash Day

I’ve been considering changing my routine lately due to new things I’ve noticed with my hair. Usually I’d wash my hair once a week, or once every two weeks but there would come times throughout that period where my hair is absolutely dry and nothing can fix it but water *lol*. I also absolutely love how my hair looks when it’s soaking wet. From now on, based on comments from another blogger post I’m going to try washing my hair every 3-4 days or when I see it’s getting dry (if that makes sense).

Aunt Jackie’s Products

First off, I absolutely love the packaging and the signage on her products. They don’t just state what they are, but what they do e.g. “Oh so clean” and “Coco Repair”. The colors and text are also well-selected making the ingredients and directions easy to read.

Shampoo:

• It’s sulfate free, paraben free, no mineral oil/petroleum
• Deep moisturizing for dry hair
• Great for detangling
• Enriched with Shea butter & olive oil

When I first posted about these products on my Instagram I received feedback from one person stating how it stripped her hair, and I was very concerned. However, upon trying for myself it felt great after, my hair felt softer and “oh so clean”.  I normally read about shampoos leaving your hair dry and what not, but I really couldn’t relate to this.

*P.S: Even though I tried the Aunt Jackie’s shampoo and liked it when I first got it I didn’t use it for the wash day pictures shown in this post (on this particular wash day). I used my soft & botanicals shampoo for no definite reason.

 

Deep Conditioner:

• Coconut cream recipes
• Sulfate free, paraben free, no mineral oil/petroleum
• Nourishment throughout hair shaft to stop damage and breakage
• For natural curls, coils & waves
• Enriched with coconut oil & avocado
• Hydrates dry, brittle hair

Now this bad boy is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Yes, it’s that good! It smells great thanks to the coconut and the consistency is nice and thick which I love. It also comes in a jar as opposed to a bottle so you can dip your fingers right in and scoop out how much you want. This time I particularly made sure I took my time and worked in even smaller sections than usual. While my hair was still damp I applied the DC from roots to ends, making sure I got every strand, then I twisted it in two-strand twists. After I was done, I covered my hair with a shower cap and waited for an hour before washing out. As soon as I was done washing it out and looked in the mirror, I was shook! My curls were popping. I may never use another deep conditioner again ha ha.

Both products are a win in my books.

To finish off my wash day I had my sister moisturize and braid/twist my hair. She used the LOC method. Hair was sprayed with water as the liquid, then applied a mixture of oils and finished off with a cream. The picture below is the finished product after untwisting my hair the next day.

Other people don’t usually love to see my hair when it’s out (or wild) like that but I love it! I was totally happy with this method and even though it took longer than usual I will try my best to stick to it.
